For those of us who have little time and want BIG results
Who has hours to spend in the gym? You don’t have to with interval training! I‘m a big fan of interval training for so many reasons — it’s easy, efficient and really works!
Advantages of Interval Cardio
There’s increasing amounts of evidence supporting the notion that you can cut your workout time significantly while reaping better benefits. Compared to jogging, advantages include:
- Burn calories longer. With interval training, you burn calories for up to 8 hours after your interval session. With jogging, you stop burning extra calories when you stop exercising.
- Improve your heat and lungs. With interval training, your heart and lungs become bigger, stronger, better able to take on sudden intense challenges, and recover faster. With jogging, your heart and lungs actually become smaller. If you want to live longer, a bigger and stronger heart and lungs is the way to go.
- Store less fat. Interval training will change the way your body stores carbs.
- Your body will become more efficient at converting carbs into glucose and glycogen, the energy used for short bursts of intense challenges like lifting weights or running 100 yards quickly. Glucose and glycogen are anabolic: they burn energy just sitting there. Fat does not.
- With low-intensity cardio (like jogging), your body becomes more efficient at converting carbs to body fat, for long-term storage for future low-intensity sessions. If you don’t exercise, you keep the fat.
- Be more efficient. You only need about two to three 30-minute interval cardio sessions per week. Traditional joggers exercise 4-8 hours per week. As fast paced as most people’s lives are these days, less is better.
- Consistency is the key to success. In order for you to stay consistent with exercise, it can only consume three to five hours per week, including cardio, resistance training, stretching and flexibility. Interval training allows for success!
- Make more human growth hormone. High-intensity interval training will naturally boost your body’s production of human growth hormone, which is a very important factor in aging and overall health.
